The simplest way to conquer the 'beginner's learning curve' where orientation within the game is concerned is to pay attention to the logs and shodan's messages - like in 'not playing them midfight' - or, if that is too time-consuming for your tastes, simply ask here and you will get directions. For example, a particular objective during the later part of the game that takes place on floor 1 can only be seen by scrolling down the list of notes for floor 1. Problems arise when, during the later stages of the game, it sends you backtracking a few floors, so your current objective is listed under that floor's tab within the 'notes' section of the MFD - a lot of people don't realize that there are arrows above the section that allow you to scroll through the different floors' objectives, as well as scrolling arrows to scroll the list further down. I found that the 'notes' section of the MFD is very accurate in displaying your next objective down to the name of the section of the map you find that objective in, along with any code you might need to fulfil said objective.
